In 2016, for the first time in Brooklyn, under the patronage of the All-American public organization “New Ukrainian Wave”, the Ukrainian Studies School “New Wave” began its history. Parents enrolled about 60 children in our school at that time.

Ten of those first students successfully passed the exams in 2019, and in 2020 received certificates of completion of Ukrainian studies. And for the 2023-2024 academic year, almost 300 students registered at the “Nova Khvilka” school. About a third of them are new arrivals, refugees from Ukraine who were forced to leave their homeland due to the war of Russia, which treacherously attacked our country.

During the school's existence, we had to look for a new building almost every year. First, it was St. Brandon's Roman Catholic Church on O Street, then the Jewish Center on Brighton. Last school year, when the school had over 200 students, we were already studying at two locations. Once again, the presence of catechetical centers in Roman Catholic churches helped us out. This time, it was St. Finbarr's Church on Bath Avenue. Our Ukrainian churches in the areas where the largest number of Ukrainians in Brooklyn now live do not have their own buildings. They act like missionaries.

The new academic year 2023-2024, the Ukrainian Studies School “Nova Khvylka” begins at the American daily school IS 228 David. A. Boody School, located at 228 Ave S, Brooklyn, NY 11223. We have at our service large spacious classrooms with interactive boards and other technical equipment. As well as a good opportunity to hold game classes in the gym. The school has started its activities PLAST for innovation and youth.
