On October 10, representatives of the Ukrainian and pro-Ukrainian community of this neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY met with the most influential Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer. His reaction to Putin’s actions in Ukraine and to the terrorist attacks by the Moscow occupiers carried out in these days was as full of anger as that of each of us Ukrainians. The questions we had prepared about recognizing Russia as a terrorist state at the official level, about qualifying Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine as genocide, and about providing even more weapons to Ukraine were met with deep understanding and assurance that he, as a true friend of Ukraine, would make every effort to achieve this.

The discussion on accelerating the consideration of emigration issues, in particular, regarding obtaining work permits for Ukrainian refugees, was also among the top priorities. We also touched on the issue of creating a Ukrainian educational and cultural center in Brooklyn for the needs of the community.
