In the early days of Russia's brutal war against Ukraine, teachers and parents of the New Wave Ukrainian Studies School in Brooklyn transferred $12,650 to the account of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine through the non-profit organization New Ukrainian Wave, which is the founder of the school. There is no family that did not make their donations through other volunteer organizations that purchased protective equipment.

In the first week of the war, we opened a medical and humanitarian aid reception point at the Guardian Angel Roman Catholic Church, located at 2978 Ocean Parkway, Brooklyn, NY. The small school community has become an organized volunteer team. Parents and teachers are constantly on duty here. Coordinators Iryna Makarova and Yana Zabarna contact dozens of people every day, sign up those who want to join, and sort things. Several dozen packages were immediately sent to Ukraine in those first days, and continue to be sent today. The shipment was free for us, for which many thanks to the sponsors, the companies "Mist" and "Nova Poshta".

Every week we transport a batch of purchased military first-aid kits, turnstiles, walkie-talkies, equipment for Ukrainian defenders, purchased with your donations. Almost $15 thousand worth of goods were transported to Warsaw by LOT Airlines by our courier Larisa Zanik for the volunteer brigades "Karpatska Sich", "Halytska Bronya". Iryna Makarova set off with the new regular batch. We also use the services of other volunteer groups with whom we cooperate. In total, almost $30 thousand worth of such aid was sent to the army.

Project "Ukrainian Symbolism" Most lessons at the Ukrainian Studies School "Nova Khvylka" look quite unusual. High school students listen to lectures and at the same time, under the guidance of history teacher Olga Hrynyk, make Ukrainian symbols. In music lessons, led by teacher Olga Obertos, they learn patriotic songs. They are invited to sing the Ukrainian anthem in concert programs, at prayer meetings, and at the opening of the new season in parks and stadiums.

Schoolchildren are actively working for victory alongside adults. On Saturday, March 19, wrapped in Ukrainian flags, high school students walked the streets of Brighton and collected a donation of $300 in an hour. In return, they gave bouquets of blue and yellow ribbons. Junior school students are also participating in the distribution of the symbols made at the school. Together, they have already collected $800 for the general treasury to support our army. The children also presented Ukrainian symbols to New York Mayor Eric Adams. At the ceremony of raising the American and Ukrainian flags in Manhattan, he wore Ukrainian symbols from our schoolchildren on his lapel.

Stand with Ukraine – T-shirts with such inscriptions are made by Lesya and Taras Seniv, parents of first-grader Nastya. They presented T-shirts with the school logo for younger students, and with the logo of the “New Ukrainian Wave” for older students and teachers, so that the money received from them could be used to buy first-aid kits, walkie-talkies, and other things for our soldiers. We also have T-shirts with Ukrainian symbols for children and adults for sale from them.
