We are going with Kolyada - we are bringing Christmas joy!
The School Nativity Scene of students in grades 9-11 of the Ukrainian Studies School "New Wave" under the leadership of Ukrainian language and literature teacher Zoryana Matiychyk began their Christmas program on January 14 at the Roman Catholic Church of Guardian Angels, located in the Brighton neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The young carolers are supported by the musical accompaniment and voice of the People's Artist of Ukraine, member of the Board of the New Ukrainian Wave NGO, bandurist Ostap Stakhiv.
Parishioners and the rector of the church, Father Serhiy Emanuel, joyfully welcomed the carolers. The Nativity Scene will also perform in other churches and in the community. The boys and girls decided in this way to raise funds for prosthetics for Ukrainian wounded soldiers who are undergoing rehabilitation in the United States and currently live on Staten Island.
The volunteer participation of high school students in supporting the defenders of Ukraine is a very important part of the school program for patriotic education of students, fostering a sense of unity with Ukraine, especially during this heroic time of the struggle for our independence and sovereignty in the war with the Moscow occupiers.
