In the first days of Russia's brutal war against Ukraine, teachers and parents of the New Wave School of Ukrainian Studies in Brooklyn donated $ 12,650 to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine through the non-profit organization New Ukrainian Wave, the school's founder. There is no family that has not made donations also through other volunteer organizations that have purchased protective equipment.

In the first week of the war, we opened a medical and humanitarian aid station at 2900 Ocean Parkway, Brooklyn, NY, at the Guardian Angel Roman Catholic Church. The small school community became an organized volunteer team. Parents and teachers are constantly on duty here. Coordinators Iryna Makarova and Yana Zabarna contact dozens of people every day, enroll those who want to join the team, and sort things out. Several dozens of packs were immediately sent to Ukraine in those early days. Shipping was free for us, thanks to the sponsors, the companies "Meest" and "Nova Poshta".

.Every week we ship a batch of military first aid kits, turnstiles, walkie-talkies, and equipment for Ukrainian defenders, purchased for your donations. Our courier Larysa Zanyk transported our equipment purchased for almost $ 15,000 to Warsaw by LOT airlines for the “Carpathian Sich” and “Galician Armor” volunteer brigades. Iryna Makarova set off with the new next consignment. We also use the services of other volunteer groups with which we cooperate. In total, we spent so far almost $30,000 for such aid that was sent to the army.

Ukrainian Symbols Project Most of the lessons at the New Wave School of Ukrainian Studies look quite unusual. High school students listen to lectures and at the same time, under the guidance of history teacher Olga Hrynyk, they make Ukrainian symbols. Patriotic songs are taught in music lessons led by teacher Olga Obertos. Our students are invited to sing the Ukrainian national anthem in concert programs, at prayer meetings, and at the opening of the new season in parks and stadiums.

Students are actively working alongside adults On Saturday, March 19, wrapped in Ukrainian flags, high school students walked the streets of Brighton and raised $ 300 in an hour. In return for the donation, they gave bouquets of blue and yellow ribbons.

Students of elementary school classes also join them in distributing the symbols made at school. Together, they have raised $ 800 to support our army. The children also handed over Ukrainian symbols to New York Mayor Eric Adams. At the ceremony of raising the American and Ukrainian flags in Manhattan, he had Ukrainian symbols from our students on the lapel of his jacket.

Stand with Ukraine - T-shirts with such inscriptions are made by Lesya and Taras Seniv, parents of Nastya, a first-grader. For younger students, they presented T-shirts with the school logo, and for senior students and teachers - with the logo of the " Ukrainian New Wave", in order to use the money for purchasing first aid kits, walkie-talkies and other things for our soldiers. We also have T-shirts with Ukrainian symbols for children and adults for sale.
